Dreams are some of the supernatural means by which God speaks to us just like he did speak to Samuel, Job, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Mary and Joseph, and so many others back in the day. At some of the various times he spoke to Ezekiel the prophet, it was by means of visions. To Austin Miles, writer of the hymn "In the Garden", in turn, God spoke by means of meditation. While meditating on the Scriptures, specifically the gospel of John, Miles was led by the Holy Spirit through an amazing, inspiring imagery. He eventually penned the words to his celebrated hymn. Even in our darkest times, when we seem to be completely blinded by circumstances, the Lord Jesus Christ enlightens our mind's eyes and illuminates the path that leads us, day by day, to inherit his Kingdom, the faithful promise we dream of.
